Jane Austen as Feminist Subversion

In this episode of Rough Translation, we hear from two sisters living in Pakistan who are trying to discover their own identities despite the gendered restrictions on their mobility. Using the writing of Jane Austen as an inspiration to subvert these restrictions, the two young women decide to create their own identities and situate their beliefs within their culture. In the same episode, a war reporter from Pakistan also uses Jane Austen to better understand her identity within her own family.
