The Black Lives Matter movement began a racial reckoning not only of social justice structures, but also within business models of diversity and inclusion. To this end, WARC, the World Advertising Research Center, created a resource guide for brand activism that offers inclusive strategies to authentically support Black businesses in advertising. The guide advocates that white pop culture references should not be viewed as the "default" in advertising, and instead that brands should turn to the insights, experiences, and expertise of Black, indigenous, and persons of color (BIPOC) individuals in order to gain greater understanding of how to authentically connect with BIPOC audiences.
